In mosques you often see abstract decorations in an interplay of regularity and variation that you can describe with mathematics. It is therefore called geometric art. In mathematics you will learn about symmetry and geometry, you will investigate patterns and draw designs yourself with ruler and compass. In this workshop, you will see examples of Turkish and Iranian mosques. In the city of Beyşehir there is an ancient mosque built in the thirteenth century, full of geometric patterns, named is the Eşrefoğlu. You will create one of those patterns together with the entire class. You also discover that you have to pay attention to what you are drawing, because it might happen that will draw a completely different pattern than you had in mind.
